What does kitchen sink installation cost in Tampa Bay?
The price turns on how much stays the same under the sink.
Homewyse’s May 2026 national estimate starts at $472-$569 per sink. That covers basic, mid-range work in what it calls readily serviceable conditions. It isn’t a Tampa Bay quote.
Read what that labor actually buys. Level, fit and secure the sink. Install the drain assembly. Connect the P trap to the existing rough-in drain line.
That last word is doing a lot of work: existing.
The national number assumes the drain connection under there already suits the new sink. It doesn’t price a relocated drain, a fresh countertop opening, or permit work.

That leaves a handful of questions a written quote should answer:
- Does the countertop already have the correct opening?
- Will the existing trap assembly remain compliant?
- Does a dishwasher share the drain connection?
- Will a food-waste disposer remain or be added?
- Does the sink base need modification or repair?
- Will any drain, supply, or vent line move?
- Is permit work included or listed separately?

What does Florida’s plumbing code require under a kitchen sink?
Florida sets minimum drain sizes and requires the dishwasher discharge to rise and stay fastened.
Section P2714.1 of the Florida Building Code, Residential, covers sink waste outlets. The outlet has to be at least 1 1/2 inches in diameter, with a strainer, crossbar, or similar device restricting the clear opening.
Section P2716.1 covers food-waste disposers. A disposer has to connect to a drain of at least 1 1/2 inches.
Section P2717.2 handles the case where a dishwasher and a one- or two-compartment sink share a discharge. That shared trap has to be at least 1 1/2 inches outside diameter.
The same section carries the requirement most people never hear about, and it’s the one you can check yourself. The dishwasher’s discharge tubing has to rise to the underside of the counter and be fastened or otherwise held in that position, before it connects to the disposer head or a wye in the sink tailpiece.
Open the cabinet and look. A hose that runs flat from the dishwasher across to the drain, with no high point held up against the counter, isn’t what that section describes. Ask the plumber to show you the rise and how it’s fastened.
This is a drain-side rule, and it isn’t the countertop air gap fitting some states require. Section P2717.1 covers the dishwasher’s water supply separately, and protection built into the machine can satisfy it.
Permits are administered locally, so the city or county building department is the one to confirm what a specific address needs.
Does replacing a kitchen sink need a permit in Tampa Bay?
Florida’s written repair exemption stops short of replacing a fixture.
Florida Building Code Section 105.2 exempts clearing stoppages and repairing leaks in pipes, valves, or fixtures. It holds only where the repairs don’t involve or require replacing or rearranging valves, pipes, or fixtures. A new sink is a replacement, so the state’s exempt list doesn’t reach it.
Hillsborough County lands in the same place from the other direction. The county calls its exempt work typically cosmetic and lists cabinet work, fencing, floor coverings, painting, shelving, tile, and wall papering. No plumbing fixture is on it.
That still isn’t one answer for every Tampa Bay address, because the city or county department is the one administering it.

City of Tampa permits also carry the Florida Building Permit Surcharge, 2.5% of permit value or a $4.00 minimum.
Settle this before you sign off on the sink line. A quote that’s silent on the permit is a quote with a hole in it.
Can I pull the permit myself?
Hillsborough County says homeowners can generally pull their own permit and act as their own contractor.
The county ties that to Florida Statute 489.103(7). Its conditions: the property has to be in your name and be your primary residence, and you have to provide an Owner Builder Disclosure Statement. The statute adds one the county page doesn’t lead with, that the owner provides direct, onsite supervision of all work not performed by licensed contractors.
Then there’s the one-year question, and the two sources say it differently. Worth knowing both.
The county’s page says “the property cannot be sold for one year from the date the work was completed.”
The statute words it as a presumption. Proof of the sale, lease, or offering within 1 year after completion creates a presumption that the construction was undertaken for purposes of sale or lease, in an action brought under that part.
Those aren’t the same statement, and we’re not going to pretend they are or tell you which one governs your situation. Ask the county how its owner-builder process applies to your address before you decide.

What moves a sink installation quote up?
Four things push a sink line past the basic number: countertop work, moving the plumbing, correcting the drain assembly, and a sink base that’s already gone soft.
The countertop needs a new opening
An undermount sink only works with a cutout sized to it, and a new cutout adds $200-$400 to the countertop work.
Pick the sink before the counter gets templated if you possibly can. Kitchen design planning is where the sink, faucet, cabinet, and counter get sorted out together instead of one at a time.
The sink moves to another location
Moving a sink is a lot more than reconnecting a P trap. The drain gets re-sloped, the supply lines get rerouted, and the vent stack usually needs extending.
That reroute runs $1,200-$2,500 in Tampa Bay, and none of it is inside the national basic-installation assumption.

Get both named on the quote. A new disposer connection is its own line, and so is the dishwasher tubing’s secured rise under the counter.
The sink base has moisture damage
Look in the cabinet under the old sink before anyone prices the new one. A base that’s already swollen or delaminating changes the scope, and finding it after demo day changes the price.

- Faucet and supply-line connection
- Food-waste disposer connection, when included
- Dishwasher discharge connection and secured rise
- Sink-base modification or repair
- Permit responsibility and permit allowance
- Rough-in and final inspection responsibility
- Items specifically excluded from the quoted price
